INCREASE OF THE WORD

HYMN – STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD

The bible is referred to as the WORD of God, meaning it can be considered a direct line of communication from the Lord.

The bible is different than any other book in the whole world. It is alive as the Holy Spirit speaks to us through it. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can reveal its spiritual truth to us.
God’s WORD is the language of God’s spirit. That means when we read it and meditate on its principles. We are allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to us and as a result can help to keep our flesh under control.

It is interesting to know that God will not do anything outside HIS WORD. The bible tells us in Heb 6 vs 13 that when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear He swore by Himself to bless Abraham.

The WORD of the Lord endures forever as the unchanging truth 1 peter 1 vs 23 – 25
Having been born again, not of [k]corruptible seed but [l]incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides [m]forever, 24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all [n]the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the [o]word of the Lord endures forever.”

The WORD of the Lord is powerful and Living Hebrews 4 vs 12

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The WORD of God gives life Prov 3 vs 1-2
My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
2 For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.

The WORD of God Are Spirit John 6 vs 63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The WORD of God is God’s breath and useful 2 Tim 3 vs 16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

For us or for as many that have come to the cross, we have the WORD, access to the WORD, and we know the WORD but we being encouraged this morning to increase our desire for the WORD of God.  To increase the value, we place on the WORD of God and to increase the trust and the use of the WORD of God.

The WORD of God is so complete that it applies to every aspect of our lives. Whether spiritual, emotional, physical just name it. Examples are numerous. Parent and Parenting, family, relationships, finances, love, peace, joy, enemies, government, church, sickness, battles etc…

But the question is do we acquaint ourselves to HIM and do we appropriate it as we ought to?

It explains and shows why we struggle with so many things in our lives. Just because we are not taking the WORD of God as we ought to.

How to go about it:

Advisable to read or study the WORD of God daily in the morning in order to be able to make use of it throughout the day.

It also set our day if we do so. And depending on your work schedule.

Write or jot down what jumps at you.

Meditate on it.

Apply it to your everyday living.

There should be progression, in terms of the time we spend on it and the way we study e. g. devotional, topical study, character study, book study etc.

PRAYERS

·      Thank God for giving us Himself as the WORD of God.

·      Thank you for not hiding yourself from us. Thank you for revealing your heart unto us through your WORD, our purpose, precious promises and making us partaker of HIS Divine nature.
2 pet 1 vs 3-4 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the [c]corruption that is in the world through lust.

·      Father please give me a fresh desire to read and study your WORD. 1 pet 2 vs 2
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow [a]thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

·      Help me to value your WORD and apply it to my everyday living for freedom and everything I need is in God’s word. John 8 vs 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

·      I pray for the spirit of total Obedience to your WORD. That I will not reject your WORD.

1 sam 15 vs 22-24 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of [d]witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”
